Win one of seven bits of kit

It’s a big one. This issue we’ve got seven pieces of gear to give away to seven of you lovely readers. All of them are sterling bits of kit, and come from our line up of SOTY 2014/15 gear winners.

Here’s what we’re giving away:

Hawx 2.0 100ATOMIC HAWX 2.0 – WORTH £250

Running from a 90 to 130 flex, there’s lots of things we like about the Hawx: flexible forefoot, hike-friendly underfoot grip pads and an adjustable forward lean, to name a few. And all that comes with full customisation thanks to Atomic’s new Memory Fit shell moulding process, which gives a bespoke fit in minutes.

k2skis_1415_route_helmet_greenK2 ROUTE HELMET – WORTH £110

We can’t remember getting this excited about a helmet before. Especially not one full of holes. But it turns out they are a very good thing. Not only do they look sort-of cool, they add to the lightness – the helmet weighs in at 320g, making it the lightest alpine certified lid around – and allow air flow. A Boa fit system, removable goggle clips and earpads round off its credentials. Good job K2.

FRITSCHI DIAMIR VIPEC 12 – WORTH £42Diamir Vipec 120

Introducing 470g of pure innovation: this is the first lightweight touring binding to feature a twist-out toe, while 13mm of elasticity gives an improved ride and a progressive release. The heel is snug against the boot and gives constant pressure, no matter what the ski is doing. It’s so innovative, the rest of the ski industry is trying to play catch-up. Well done Diamir.

haglofs_VojdJacket

HAGLÖFS VOJD JACKET – WORTH £600

The Vojd jacket is one of many reasons Haglöfs won our Outerwear Brand of the Year gong. It’s perfectly thought out for freeride skiing. Developed with Swedish ski mountaineer Andreas Fransson and made with tough, breathable three-layer Gore-Tex Pro, the longish cut and clever articulation are ideal for deep powder days but offer enough movement for ascents.

BLACK CROWS ATRIS – WORTH £580

BlackCrows_Atris_184_01This is our ski of choice from our Brand of the Year, Black Crows. It is a bold freeride ski: the rocker is thinned at the tip for reduced weight, giving it superb manoeuvrability. The power comes from underfoot camber, which gives feedback throughout the ride. Poplar core and semi cap construction keep the weight down, making it light enough for the occasional tour, while the meaty 108 underfoot gives it float in the deepest of powder.

HEAD TOTAL JOY – WORTH £610

head_total_joy_slr_JOY 11 SLR_DL

This one’s for the ladies: our Women’s ski of the Year. Head have changed the shape of the playing field here, thanks to a clever use of honeycomb, wood core and graphene. The soft nose and shovel shape speeds up turns, and the super-light ends make it extremely flickable in powder. Plus it’s about a third lighter than other women’s skis of its standard. Very much a ski you want to win.

VÖLKL MANTRA – WORTH £500

VOE_1415_MANTRA_CMYKIt’s only our Ski of the Year. This is, quite simply, the best ski we’ve skied this year (and we’ve skied a lot of them). Why is it so good? Glad you asked: it’s a super-powerful freerider with the perfect combination of width (100m at the waist), float, shape and stiffness. Pistes are easy, it bounces huge powder turns and it whips around on the crud. A viable one-ski quiver from Völkl that has some serious freeride credentials.
