Sammy Carlson makes skiing fun again in new edit ‘To Be’

Sammy Carlson proves his skiing is just as good as his music taste as he charges around Revelstoke in new flick ‘To Be’

It’s been a weird year, with Trump and Brexit and the shocking news that Ischgl has banned ski boots after 8pm, but 27 year old Sammy Carson isn’t the type to let little things like that get him down . In fact, Carlson is one of those guys who somehow just makes skiing look like so much fun that you want to pull your boots on and practise 360°s on your bed right now. Even when he’s being checked for concussion live on camera.

In his latest edit ‘To Be,’ a round up of his 15/16 season in the mountains around Revelstoke, one thing really stands out about Carlson: his sheer mastery of freeride skiing. Whether bumping pillows and slashing his tails out for gratuitous faceshots on storm days or spinning 7s off huge cliffs mid big mountain run, he somehow makes everything look so easy that he might just be out for a rip with his mates – in a raccoon tail hat, no less!

This is the sort of skiing we’ve been missing lately: so many freeride edits these days seem to be stuffed full with rad tricks off impressive natural features, but are totally lacking in the actual skiing department – maybe just a couple of speed check turns if you’re lucky. There’s no disputing the skill and courage involved, but it’s great to see Carlson linking those tricks into fast and fluid big mountain lines, with a massive smile on his face all the way through. Even better, there’s no hip hop anywhere!
