SKI RESORTS HAVE BEEN WORKING HARD TO COME UP WITH HEAPS OF SUPER COOL ACTIVITIES TO KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED WHEN THE LIFTS STOP RUNNING – HERE’S SOME OF THE BEST WE’VE SEEN SO FAR:

NIGHT SKI TOURING IN VERBIER, SWITZERLAND

Start: Verbier (Les Esserts) 1,690 m – Finish: Savoleyres 2,340 m. Altitude difference: 650 metres.

From the Les Esserts bus stop, ascend along the Planards–Carrefour red run as far as Les Planards. From there, take the cross-country ski/snowshoe route (pink markers) up to the Croix-de-Cœur (2,173 m).

Then follow the blue run that runs along the crest up to the Savoleyres summit. Afterwards, treat yourself to warming dinner at Restaurant de Savoleyres if you fancy.

This particular route is open every Wednesday evening (until 9 pm) from January to March 2021 and other trails are possible.

STAY OVERNIGHT IN A PISTE BASHER AT 2,400M IN La Plagne, FRANCE 

Spend a night in a piste basher on the quiet slopes of La Plagne. The ‘Over The Moon’ groomer is a perfect place to get away from everyone, and everything, and sleep closer to the stars. Slip into the hot tub with a glass of champagne overlooking Mont Blanc, before cosying up in the piste basher for a night to remember.

4KM TOBOGGAN RIDE IN ST ANTON, AUSTRIA

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, hire a toboggan at the bottom of the Nasserein lift in St. Anton, before heading up the mountain to the Gampen for the start of a rapid ride on a toboggan.

The 4 km lighted sled run, from Gampen to Nasserein to the Rodelstall, takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and has a vertical elevation of 1,670 feet / 500 metres. At the bottom, treat yourself to a warming Glühwein at one of the cosy restaurants.

Prices from €13.50 per adult and €6.50 per child. The toboggan route is open from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

SKI LA SARENNE AT SUNSET IN ALPE D’HUEZ, FRANCE

La Sarenne is the longest black piste in the world at 16 km in length and 2,000 m of elevation – and skiing it as the sun sets is incredible. With a total of 10 trips scheduled during the season, skiers and snowboarders can take the last ski-lift at 4:30 pm to start their adventure. At the top (3,330 metres altitude) the sunset offers an unforgettable spectacle over one-fifth of France.

Guided by French ski instructors and ski patrollers, skiers begin their descent with head torches in the twilight surrounded by nature. Arrival planned at approximately 8 pm in the village of Huez. A bus then takes skiers back to the main resort of Alpe d’Huez where everyone who has taken part will receive a small souvenir. Price is €55 pp and a valid ski pass is needed.
