What’s new for winter ’25

Welcome to the ’25 winter season! This year, the mountains are buzzing with excitement – from Verbier’s luxurious Cabane Tortin and Saalbach hosting the Alpine Skiing World Championships to Val Thorens joining the Freeride World Tour. Closer to home, skiers in the UK can fine-tune their skills on a new Infinity Slope in Wiltshire, while La Niña promises snowier conditions for North America and Scandinavia.
If you think warm water in your ski touring hut is the height of luxury, let us present you with the latest “refuge” to open in Verbier: Cabane Tortin. Perched at 3,000m near Nendaz in Switzerland’s 4 Valleys, it is a fully serviced, glass-paneled mountain hut that comes with its own mountain guide, a chef, and accommodation for eight guests.
If the CHF 60,000 (£53,400) price tag for three nights is a little over your budget, there’s a “high-end” bivouac downstairs that’s open to ski tourers when not privately booked.
Yep, we’ll be seeing you down there.
Mark your calendars – the Alpine Skiing World Championships return to Saalbach this February for the first time in 34 years. This high-stakes competition only comes around every two seasons, and Saalbach is gearing up to provide a memorable experience for spectators and competitors alike.
Unlike previous World Champs, all the races between 4-16 February will be held on a single hill and finish in a stadium at the foot of the mountain that will bring fans closer to the action. What’s more, the resort will still be open at almost full capacity for skiing between cheering on the British team, who are viewing this comp as a real opportunity to win medals.

The Freeride World Tour (FWT) is set to include Val Thorens as a new stop for its 2025 season, marking the first time since 2017 that the tour returns to France. Val Thorens’ Cime Caron will host world-class athletes competing for big mountain victory.
This addition is part of a six-stop itinerary, starting in Spain’s Baqueira Beret. The FWT will also build towards the first-ever FIS Freeride World Championships that will take place in Andorra in 2026.

Great news for skiers in the southwest of England who are keen to get a head start on the season – a new Infinity Slope has opened in Wiltshire, the UK’s latest addition to year-round skiing. This high-tech facility features an endless slope that works just like a treadmill and can adjust both speed and angle, perfect for fine-tuning technique.
There are already three Infinity Slopes in the UK – in the South Downs, North Devon, and London – but this one has been launched by keen skier and former BBC Dragon Nick Jenkins, who was keen to create somewhere for his daughter to practice between holidays. What a dad!

Skiers heading to the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada can look forward to a potentially epic season, as La Niña conditions are expected to bring colder and snowier weather patterns. Resorts like Whistler Blackcomb, Mt. Baker, and Jackson Hole could potentially see above-average snowfall, while Scandinavia could have a snowier winter than other parts of Europe.
Keep an eye on these regions to see if the predictions come true! Be sure to sign up for Welove2ski.com’s weekly snow reports – they’re the best in the biz.
