TRIED & TESTED: DINOSKI CUB SKI SUIT
WE LOVE THE APPROACH FROM DINOSKI – THEY JUST WANT TO ADD A LITTLE FUN INTO THE MIX. AFTER ALL, WHY DRESS YOUR KIDS IN BORING-LOOKING SKI GEAR WHEN THEY CAN WEAR DISTINCTIVE PASTEL COLOURS ADORNED WITH A HORNS, OR EARS, OR A TAIL?!
The UK animal-themed skiwear brand launched last year by three young entrepreneurs. There are several models in the Dinoski range for children aged between two and seven years old, from a panda bear and unicorn suit to a dinosaur and a lion cub suit – the latter of which we have tested on our two-year-old son.
The fit (he wore size 2-3 years) is perfect, with just enough length in the arms and legs to allow for growing room. The elasticated waist is tight enough to keep the material out of his way when he needs to pick himself up. The ankle cuffs unzip and a have velcro closure so they stretch over boots easily, and there are spandex thumb holes to keep the wrist cuffs from riding up.
The microfibre insulation is super warm. And being a onesie they’ll never get snow up their back (I don’t know about your kids but ours roll about in the snow, a lot!). The outer material, to touch, seems really tear-resistant, so it should last from one child to the next. The waterproofing/ breathability is adequate, with a rating of 5000mm, and the seams are all taped.
The suit has great pockets; some established brands simply don’t think kids need pockets. Here you have not only a ski pass pocket on the arm, but also two good sized pockets on the front for sandwiches/sweets/gloves, plus a small inside pocket. The zip pulls are huge and easily grabbable.
Finally, the removable hood (which in the Cub’s case has ears) is massive and can easily fit over a helmet, unlike most kids’ ski suit hoods that are too small to stretch over a helmet and just lay idle on their backs.
Do we wish the Cub suit had a tail on the back (like Hop, the bunny rabbit suit), as well as ears? Perhaps, but it is still a very cute ski suit that our son loved wearing and made him highly visible on the slopes.
