Courmayeur

Nestling on the south eastern slope of the Mont Blanc massif, Courmayeur’s dramatic alpine scenery has 14 peaks over 4000m

Founded in the 17th century as a spa town located at the very top of the Aosta valley, Courmayeur has world-famous charm. Nearly every rooftop is made of huge slabs of chunky slate hewn from Europe's highest mountain. In fact almost every building, street and fountain in the town is either made from or built into the mountain. The cobbled streets that trickle off the Via Roma in the old town boast some of the best restaurants in the Alps and also some of the highest Italian fashion. The Courmayeur resort is split into three main areas or towns: Courmayeur, on a south-facing ridge; Dolonne, just over the river in the valley; and Entrèves, a little way up the valley from Dolonne. Each has its own lift to the resort ski area.
