Head Super Joy

Head Super Joy review
They say
The Super Joy’s superpower comes from the shape, a lightweight core, and Better Balance technology, creating a quick-turning, responsive ski.
We say
A returning Editors’ Choice with nothing but a facelift for 2024/25, the Super Joy continues to deliver a supremely balanced ride. It’s nimble, smooth and rewarding, especially for confident female skiers who like to mix it up on the piste.
Overview
Head gave the Joy series a major revamp last year, so this season’s Super Joy comes back unchanged in tech terms but refreshed with a new graphic. It remains a lightweight, confidence-boosting ski that works exceptionally well across a variety of turn shapes and speeds. At its heart is Head’s Better Balance system, which ensures optimal stance across different boot sizes by maintaining a consistent ramp angle. That’s clever engineering for real-world comfort and control.
Spec performance
Under the bonnet, the Super Joy is packing some sophisticated tech. A wood core is layered with Graphene for a high strength-to-weight ratio, while Head’s Energy Management Circuit (EMC) actively dampens vibrations—so you get stability when ramping up the pace without losing its easy-going feel when you’re cruising.
The profile of the ski has a thinner waist underfoot which softens the flex slightly but retains a continuous pressure arc along the edge. The tip features a modest rocker, designed to ease turn initiation and add a dash of versatility in softer snow or chopped-up piste. There’s also the option to pair it with the Protector binding system, which can reduce ACL strain in crashes, although it’s a pricey upgrade at £105.
Performance
On snow, the Super Joy is a standout for its precision and playfulness. At 75mm underfoot, it’s not the widest but that makes it supremely quick edge-to-edge. Our tester Tamsin summed it up perfectly:
“A joy to ski. Dependable yet playful, light yet powerful; the Super Joy felt nimble and responsive. The lightness takes some getting used to when skiing hard, but work this ski and it gives back all you ask of it.”
It’s happiest arcing down groomers but handles chopped-up sections and small detours off the side with confidence. The 14m radius @ 163cm keeps things lively but controlled, and the moderate sidecut allows for both quick slalom-style turns and longer, cruisier carves.
Skier compatibility
The Super Joy is best suited to advanced-level women skiers who appreciate a ski that’s responsive without being too demanding. It delivers ample grip and power when pushed but won’t punish you for easing off. For those seeking something racier and stiffer, the narrower Power Joy model might be a better fit.
Conclusion
Still very much a standout in the women’s piste category, the Head Super Joy is light on the legs but strong in spirit. Its combination of tech, balance and versatility makes it a brilliant daily driver for advanced skiers who love to carve but don’t want to feel caged in by their kit. A returning favourite for good reason.
