This Canadian house comes with its own private ski area

This chalet in Canada is up for sale for $1.5 million, and it comes complete with five private ski slopes

We’ve always dreamt about this: our own private ski hill with and not a soul to share it with. And it turns out that, for a surprisingly reasonable CA$1.5 million (£760,000), we can have exactly that.

A house near Huntsville, Ontario has gone on the market and, along with the five bedrooms, three bathrooms and an open kitchen/dining room, the property boasts its own 123 acre ski area with a 250ft vertical drop.

The area includes five ski runs and two backcountry trails

Fiddlehead Mountain, as it’s now known, has a T-bar, snow groomer, warming hut, five runs and two backcountry trails. One of the runs, named after Canadian Olympic skier Nancy Green, is even lit for night skiing. Après ski is sorted too: there’s a covered gazebo with a steel fire pit.

The current owner, Rob Birch, learnt to ski on the hill, run by Huntsville Ski Club, when he was younger, and in 1997 bought his partner Francine Goulet to see it. During their visit, they discovered the lift was no longer running and that the property was for sale.

They bought it for CA$90,000 and set about restoring the ski facilities, which involved recutting the runs and fixing the T-bar. They also built a five bedroom chalet on the property.

The property has its own swimming pool too

Along with ski facilities, the property includes a swimming pool, hot tub, 300 bottle wine room and an ice rink. In the summer, the ski trails can be used for hiking and mountain biking.
