Introducing The Cabin, home of first class rental skis

A new rental shop in Glenshee is bringing top-of-the-range skis to the masses

We don’t talk much about renting skis here at Fall-Line. That’s because, for the most part, rentals are s*@t. But, there are a handful shops out in the Alps that offer riders the chance to ski some of the best planks in the business. And, up in Glenshee, a new ski shop is doing just that for Scotland.

Launched by Christopher Bilsland, a BASI instructor, and his partner Holly, The Cabin Ski Hire, at the Bridge Of Cally, opened this season, bringing an excellent variety of planks to Scotland skiers. Along with standard range of Rossignol rental skis, The Cabin stocks a premium range, consisting of some of Fall-Line’s all-time favourites.

“We’ve based a lot of the choices on Fall-Line’s skis of the year, for example we have the Volkl Kenja, K2 Shreditor, K2 Pinnacle 95, Line Sick Day,  Line Tigersnake, Line Mordecai… plus another 30 awesome skis.” It also stocks bespoke handmade Lonely Mountain skis. “Although some of these skis are more powder oriented, we feel the market is there for super fun skis regardless of the conditions,” says Chris.

Much like Ellis Brigham’s Big Ski Test and Snow + Rock’s Try Before You Buy scheme, the new shop gives skiers a chance to take this year’s skis our for a proper whirl on real snow, before investing in their dream pair.

“Our background is in ski rental and we’ve worked all over Europe. We eat, sleep, breathe skiing and want to bring the same level of service and ski quality [that you find] in European shops.” explains Chris. “We are opening in the same year that Glenshee are replacing the legendary Tiger chair with a three-man chair, so it’s a really exciting time for local skiing”. Prices from £18 per day (£24 for the premium range).
