Over 140 freeskiers and snowboarders entered, bringing along their families, friends and entourages. The quality of riding and the fun and camaraderie just goes to prove that the future looks super bright for British Freeskiing and Snowboarding.
The incredible atmosphere out on the slope wasn’t just created by the athletes but also by MC Jay Stephenson who was keeping the huge crowds informed. Katie Ormorod, who looks destined for greatness, was a total standout and stole the boys' thunder with her super smooth style and front flips off the raised Red Bull rail. Youngsters Jake Terry & Becky Menday (age category winners) were also pushing the limits with their rail skills and the other notable performance was from Sean Tumelty, who not only qualified for the evening invitational but also won the best unsponsored prize from Salomon Snowboards which included a brand new board and boots.

The 12 men and four women selected to compete had a 45-minute session in which to qualify for the knockout finals. Only one rider was allowed on course at a time so that they had the full attention of the judges. Last year's champion and World-class snowboarder Jamie Nicholls opted to join the judging panel and was great at encouraging the rest of the riders.
Four riders were selected from this invitational jam session to compete in the snowboard knockout comp and in the first two heats Andy Nudds and Ross Needham styled it out to win their places the super finals, despite solid runs from Simon Cudlip and Chill Factore local, Jordie Gee. In the 3rd heat Simon beat Jordie to 3rd place with his super smooth style and tech tricks and then it was time for the ultimate final between Andy and Ross. Andy was first to drop and if he was nervous he didn't show it. His run was textbook and probably his best one of the day. Ross had to pull out all the stops to beat him but didn’t quite manage it and Andy Nudds was crowned the overall Oakley Grom Games Snowboard Champion, walking away with £200, custom Oakley crowbar goggles and the coveted Grom Games medal.
