The outpouring of condolences from the freeskiing community is just one illustration of how well respected and revered Sarah Burke was. She was there at the start of Ski Halfpipe and has been one of, if not the strongest ambassador of the sport since its inception. A great winner and gracious in defeat she was the epitome of how we want our heroes to be.

Heartbreaking stuff last night as the internet exploded with the harrowing news of Canadian superpipe star Sarah Burke’s death from the injuries she sustained during training last week.

The FIS Halpipe World Championships took place last Saturday in Park City. With a strong wind blowing some of the athletes struggled, but for experienced pipe rider and Atomic athlete, Mike Riddle, none of it was a problem and he stormed to victory, claiming the ultimate prize of being named the FIS Halfpipe World Champion.
