Sarah Burke Trophy awarded to Gus Kenworthy and Devin Logan

American freeskiers Gus Kenworthy and Devin Logan have been awarded the first ever Sarah Burke Trophy after achieving the highest male and female AFP Overall World Rankings. 20-year-old Gus Kenworthy competeted in more events than any other freeskier this season, achieving a total of 23 top five finishes. He recently won the Big Air and Slopestyle Comps in the AFP World Champs, as well as coming second in the Suzuki Nine Knights event in Livigno.

The outpouring of condolences from the freeskiing community is just one illustration of how well respected and revered Sarah Burke was. She was there at the start of Ski Halfpipe and has been one of, if not the strongest ambassador of the sport since its inception. A great winner and gracious in defeat she was the epitome of how we want our heroes to be.

Heartbreaking stuff last night as the internet exploded with the harrowing news of Canadian superpipe star Sarah Burke’s death from the injuries she sustained during training last week.
