Knee deep pow, 40° slopes, bumpy rides and a serious après-vibe. No wonder it’s a Fall-line regular.
This is where serious skiers head for the best freshies (and a few beers). Linking up with St Christophe and Stuben, this area boasts 127km of runs including some epic ungroomed ski routes. But with great skiing comes the crowds and it does not take long for the peaks to get tracked out. We like the tiny Albona area above Stuben, a 30 minute climb to the Maroikopfe opens up some 40° drops down to Verwalltall.
If the steep slopes are taking their toll on your thighs, then why not head to flashy Lech for a couple of days? Its all included in the Arlberg lift pass and offers a more…erm…gentle skiing experience and often even better pow. Tree-lined Sonnenkopf isn’t a bad shout during a white out.
As always (or so it seems), there is a drawback – the much-dreaded aforementioned crowds. The last run of the day is can be only be described as rush hour on skis but staying away from the main pistes is anything but a chore in St Anton.
