The world’s first ever ski-thru coffee shop

Scrap moaning about those “damned Starbucks on the corner of every street”, we’ll soon be complaining about them clogging up the hills too. Yep. Starbucks has only gone and done it. They’ve opened the world’s first ever ski-thru in Squaw Valley, California.

Skiers desperately needing a Caramel Macchiato or Caffé Latte to keep them company on the next chair (or even as they hoon it down if they’ve got a very steady hand) can just ski right up to the window, grab a coffee, and slide away again. You know, because taking off your skis and walking into a bar is just way too much effort isn’t it? It would be the Americans who came up with another energy saving classic – after all they already have drive-thru ATMs and, well, just about every other retail outlet you can imagine.

"We worked closely with the design team at Starbucks to create a one-of-a-kind experience that we know our guests will truly enjoy," said Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley's president and CEO. "Nowhere else in the world can skiers and riders enjoy a delicious Starbucks coffee without missing a beat on the slopes."

It was only a matter of time, but even so, skis, Starbucks-style queues and boiling-hot drinks can only be a recipe for a coffee-break disaster.
