Ladies' Downhill Ski

In spite of a gammy shin Vonn took gold in the Women's Downhill last Wednesday. In a race that saw so many competitiors crash (Marion Rolland from France before the first gate!) British contender, Chemmy Alcott, made a good stand to come in at 13th. Chemmy actually led the field for all of five minutes, flying down the course at 100kmph. She was clearly so overwhelmed with her temporary first place that she took a dive into the crash barriers after the finish line.

Stacy Cook, Elizabeth Goergl and Julia Manusco put an end to the show as they charged down the course.
Manusco was renegated to second place  as Lindsey Vonn took the poverbial bull by the horns, slinging herself to victory. Already the the reigning World Champion after a Gold medal in Val d'Isere last February, and on her men's skis, she took Gold at the Olympics with a time .51s faster than Manusco's.

Elizabeth Goergl took the Bronze medal.

Men's Downhill

Didier Defago from Switzerland took first and the Gold medal with a time of 1:54.31. He was followed up by Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway and Bode Miller representing the USA
