The North Face® Ski Challenge

The North Face® Ski Challenge Presented by GORE-TEX® ready for the first international qualifying event

Just a few days to go before the start of the first international qualifying event for the North Face Ski Challenge, to be held in Flachauwinkl, Austria, Jan 30 & 31st.   This will be the first Austrian stage ever for Europe's premier event for young freeskiers looking at reaching the next level in their ski careers.

After this weekend’s national qualifying events in Germany and Slovakia, tomorrow's young stars of freeskiing will meet up in Austria in the hope of qualifying for the event finals in Val Thorens, France to maybe win a sponsoring contract with The North Face and Atomic.

For the first time also, riders aged 19 and 20 (born 1991 and 1990) will be able to participate in a new category called “Emperors”.
"This category is meant for younger riders to see what you can achieve if you train. And at 19 or 20, you're more precise about what you want to do. Some riders are still unknown to the world of skiing but have developed skills far above the average.  And since we’re a bit like American Idol only on skis, we thought it’d be great for these young skiers to come under the light» says William Revenaz, Tour Manager.

And of course, other categories will be featured as usual: Kids (for riders aged 12-13), Teens (14-15), Kings (16-18) and Queens (girls overall).
“This is why The North Face Ski Challenge has become Europe's most important talent search event” says Jason Shutt, the tour's head judge. “Because we don't expect a 12 year old kid to perfom like an 18 year old rider. Because we intend to help them become better skiers and help them grow into becoming pros and reach the next level in their careers”.

Flachauwinkl (Austria) will be the first of the 5 International qualifying events to be held. The tour will then head to Norway (Hemsedal, Feb 13-14), Sweden (Åre, Feb 20-21), France (Chamonix Feb 27-28), Italy (Alagna Mar 6-7) and all the qualified riders will meet in Val Thorens, France for the event final on March 26-28.
