Stranded skiers and snowboarders brought home

How to handle a crisis, and times when a package holiday actually works out in your favour

With air travel to and from the UK up the spout for nearly a week since the volcanic ash cloud closed UK airspace, skiers and snowboarders enjoying the end of winter potentially had a very long and tedious few days on the cards.

Luckily for anyone who had booked package holidays with TUI Ski (Crystal Ski, Thomson Ski, First Choice Ski, Flexiski) the company pulled out the stops to ensure they got their customers home, and had apparently succeeded in bringing all of their European skiers and snowboarders (a whopping 2500 people) home by 10am yesterday morning.

The company used a combination of local and national coach services and wanted to give a special thanks to SeaFrance, King’s Ferry coaches as well as Austrian and French coach companies, "big ‘thank you’ to all of them!" from the team at TUI SKi.

While life wasn't as simple for trans-Atlantic voyagers, who were still in the US and Canada yesterday, the customers were being accommodated in hotels and resort teams were keeping them abreast of the latest updates.

Some of the customers were so pleased with their service they have already contacted TUI Ski,

"I just wanted to say thank you very much for organising the coach home for us from Tignes on Saturday. We arrived home feeling somewhat exhausted but so thankful that the journey had been organised for us so efficiently and quickly. We will certainly travel with your company again – the reps had been very good in Tignes as well, thanks the L family."
