To kick off the winter season, the UK’s biggest snow and music event, the Relentless Freeze Festival, makes its return to London’s Battersea Power Station on the 28th and 29th October. Fall-Line gives you the low-down of what’s happening.
Running over two days instead of three this year, the action is promised to be non-stop. Once again, the focus of the ‘Freeze’ turns to the massive, 32m high, 100m long kicker, built using 500 tonnes of real snow. Attracting some of the top Big Air riders from all over the world to compete, it’s set to be a good show!
Things will be kicking off on Friday 28th October with the Battle of Britain ski and snowboard competitions. This invite only comp brings together the 16 best British athletes to compete for places in the international comps. Last year, Paddy Graham took first place in the skiing, but won’t be taking part this year due to injury, leaving the contest wide open. Billy Morgan took first in the snowboarding with a double backflip and is set to return against young-gun Jamie Nicholls and other riders still to be confirmed.
The freestyle skiers will then take the stage in the afternoon, for the International Ski Big Air. Last year's champion Jacob Wester will be battling to retain his title against top skiers, Henrik Harlaut, Colby West, Gus Kenworthy, John Spriggs and Matt Walker to name a few.
Then on the Saturday, snowboarder Marko Grilc will also be defending his title in the LG Big Air World Cup. This year he’ll be fending off the likes of Seppe Smits, Arthur Longo and Ulrik Badertscher.
To round off the Saturday afternoon, there’ll be the EU vs. The world competitions, in which the crème of the EU skiers and snowboarders will clash with the American teams. Will the European team be able to hold on to the crown?
Alongside the kicker action will be four live music stages with the festival's biggest acts to date. Confirmed to be taking the main stage on the Friday night is electronic duo Groove Armada and their Red Light project. Alongside them, will be Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and renowned beatboxer, Beardyman. The big names continue on Saturday night when The Streets will be playing one of their last UK shows together, plus performances from Everything Everything and The Joy Formidable.
Tickets are priced at £37 for a day pass, £60 for a season pass (three days), with a child’s day ticket at £17 and a child’s season ticket at £28.
