Prizes, comps, videos and snow... it's the news

We're taking a quick look at what is and what's been going on in the UK and further afield this week...

Yes! It's the next Great British Ski Movie, and you're in it!

Autumn 2010 will see the release of a new ski movie, showcasing the best British skiing and editing talent. Consisting of a series of short films highlighting British freeskiing, the movie is the culmination of a competition to find the best skiers and editors in the fast-growing British freeskiing scene.

Woven together by Eddie ‘Slavemonkey’ Thelwell the film will feature skiing from dryslopes, indoor domes, European glaciers and parks, as well as backcountry freestyle and freeride sessions. Extras will include footage of secret invite-only ‘after-hours’ sessions at Snozone, some of the UK’s top freestyle events, and trailers for other UK ski movies.

From July onwards, edits will be entered in to the competition on the ‘Britain’s Got Skiers’ Facebook site, with the best edits being chosen at the end of August. This site will be available to view with all the entries, as the competition progresses. Once the best edits have been selected, the movie will be produced for release at the London Olympia Ski Show, starting 20th October, where the overall winning entry will be selected by a panel of judges and awarded a £500 prize.

Skiinfo reports heavy snow in Australia while the Alps get a battering from the sun. Although most of the Austrian and Swiss glaciers are still open the snow is looking slushy.
