Equipment check with Jason Shutt

For the last eight years I have been skiing on Dynastar / Lange so last year was a little bit of a culture shock when I changed to Atomic who were one of the sponsors of The North Face Ski Challenge

Atomic, as we all know, have a rich racing heritage but are now using that experience to produce some of the best freestyle and freeride skis out there on the market. Below is my choice of kit for 2010 / 2011.

Skis

Brand: Atomic
Model: Co-Ax 183
Price: £475
Web: www.atomicsnow.com
Why: Also available in 192 I prefer this ski in the shorter length for every day use. 105mm under the foot and a turn radius of 22m means this ski is super versatile and can do it all from powder to the groomers.

Powder Skis

Brand: Atomic
Model: Atlas 192
Price: £500
Web: www.atomicsnow.com
Why: Atomic used to have a ski called the Sugar Daddy but this really is the Daddy. 192cm, 125mm under the foot with a rocker in just the tip means you get all the floatation but with the stiffness in the waist and in the tail makes this ski a really big mountain charger ideal for those big days on the hill.

Jacket

Brand: North Face
Model: Gitter down jacket
Price: £289
Web: www.thenorthface.com/eu
Why: I have been involved with The North Face for over seven years firstly as one of there UK sponsored riders and then with The North Face Ski Challenge. My choice for this season is the Gitter Down Jacket. The North Faces Hyvent material coupled with the down fill means I will be protected from the elements and toasty warm. Ideal whether I am getting the face shots or sitting judging comps.

Goggles

Brand: Scott
Model: Fix
Price: £79.99
Web: www.scott-sports.com
Why: After a couple of years in the shadow of Oakley and Smith, Scott have come back to the fore with some excellent new models and colour schemes. My choice is the Fix (plus) with the spherical optiview lens as well as Scott's ACS ventilation system you never have to worry about spotting that all important landing.

Poles

Brand: Scott
Model: Team Issue Pole
Price: £54.99
Web: www.scott-sports.com
Why: I am also using an older model of pole the Vertigo, Lee and Woody the boy's from Scott gave me these last year. Scott poles always feel good in your hand, good weight, good grip, nice balance but just as important these are the same colour as my googles for those all important Fall-line photo shoots.
