Garmin has created a range of GPS kit for the mountains.

How many times have you wanted to be able to track how far you’ve traveled in a day in the mountains? And, more importantly, how fast are you actually going?

Well the bright people over at Garmin have put two and two together to create a portable GPS device built with mountain sports in mind. No more of this sensible business of keeping tabs on you in case you're in danger (although it can obviously do all that too). It’s all about bragging rights.

We had a proper look at the Foretrex 401 over the Christmas period up in the Cairngorms (see the issue 89 of Fall-Line for the full review) and spent most of the time staring at the speedo mode our wrists.

If you feel a go on a Garmin this season, 10 specialist test centres have been set-up across the Alps for you to risk life and limb all in the name of winning a pub argument. After a day riding with the centre's garmin kit, you will be able to upload your info to t'interweb. Find out who's travelled the fastest, climbed the highest and spent most time sat down all day.
