First-class riders at the Austrian Freeski Open 2010!

The preparations for the Austrian Freeski Open 2010 at the Mellow Park Kitzsteinhorn are in full swing

From February 25 to 28, 2010, the international freeskiing elite will meet in Zell am See-Kaprun (AUT) and find out who’s their best while battling for the US$ 20,000 prize money.

At its 8th edition, the Austrian Freeski Open will take place at the Kitzsteinhorn in One Big Park SalzburgerLand for the very first time. Weeks before, the rush on the free qualification places for the slopestyle event at the new location is already enormous. Many international top-class riders of the freeski scene already confirmed their participation – among them are freeski legend Jon Olsson (SWE), the winner of the Jon Olsson Invitational 2009, Russ Henshaw (AUS), the winner of the Dew Tour 2008 Breckenridge, Bobby Brown (USA), the winner of the European Open 2008, Henrik Harlaut (SWE) and double Austrian champion Patrick Hollaus (AUT). With titleholder Elias Ambühl (SUI), the runner-up of the Austrian Freeski Open 2009, Bene Mayr (GER), the winner of the X Games slopestyle contest 2008, Andreas Håtveit (NOR) and the winner of the Nippon Open 2008, Jossi Wells (NZL), also four top-class Atomic pros will take part. They will all be fighting for the highest Austrian Freeski Open prize money up to now, US$ 20,000!

The Kitzsteinhorn Mellow Park is already perfectly equipped for the Austrian Freeski Open 2010: the Central Park is open and even the pro kicker line is ready for the most part. This line will yet be specially prepared for the freeski pros’ requirements so that riders will find ideal contest conditions on the rails, kickers and special obstacles giving them the opportunity to show top-level performances.

Riders will once again compete in three categories: in addition to the open male contest, there’s the exciting rookie class for offspring riders under 16 and also an open female contest. The event will start with a free training on Wednesday, February 25th 2010. On the proximate Thursday, the ladies’ and the rookies’ contests will take place, and Friday will see the qualification for the concluding male finals on Saturday. Up to 80 riders will be allowed to register for the qualification. The best 15 riders of the qualification will encounter 15 seeded pros in the semi finals. Every rider will have two runs with the best run counting. The best ten riders will go forward to the finals and battle for the victory and the attractive prize money.

Attractive side events, concerts and DJ acts will make sure that the Austrian Freeski Open 2010 stay a familiar meeting of the freeski scene, in spite of the high-level performances. For four days, the region Zell am See-Kaprun will become the centre of the freeski scene: Wednesday night, a Freeski Night Show with a following Riders Evening will kick off the event at Zell am See, and finally the freeskiers will celebrate all night long at the FM4 Contest Party at Burg Kaprun on Saturday.
