The mighty Sella Ronda: The biggest round-trip on skis?

The Sella Ronda, so called because you go round the Gruppo Sella, this itinerary lies in the biggest linked area of the Superski.

Ortesei, Selva and Alta Badia are the places to stay to be directly connected, though it’s only minutes from Val Pusteria and Kronplatz. We reckon it takes about five hours to get round, taking time to look at the view, a detour up an interesting side run and enjoy a couple of coffees on the way.

It takes a lot less time for the pros, mind you, and we know because we staged a Fall-Line race here a couple of seasons ago. What makes it so special is crossing over four mountain passes and using the stunning Sella as the pivot point around which you slowly circle.

You’ll need to be able to cope with red runs, but there are no frights en route. More critically there are
plenty of excellent mountain restaurants in which to grab a coffee, snack, lunch, beer, afternoon tea, warming grappa, hot chocolate and perhaps another beer. Or two...

And the Sella Ronda – until we’re proved otherwise – is the biggest round-trip on skis we know of.

CRITICAL INFO: 40km long, 13 lifts and 11 pistes if you go clockwise, or 14 lifts and 11 pistes if you go anti-clockwise. It’s very well signposted so you won’t get lost, unless you spend too much time staring at the raw beauty of the place.
