The cross region resort: Val di Fiemme/Obereggen (Trentino/South Tyrol regions)

Sitting at the top of one of the narrower gorges you can drive up, Obereggen is a piste-side mini resort that links into the Latemar ski area.

On the other side of the mountain sit another three towns which access the same area: Predazzo, Pampeago and Cavalese. So you’ve the choice of Trentino or South Tyrolean bases to explore this area. Arriving
a bit late in the day? That’s ok because you can warm up your legs on the Laner piste until 10pm. It is so well lit you won’t realise its night, until you get on the chair and the world disappears. It’s also a great red
in its own right and runs right back to base. Otherwise head on over and take any of the lifts running up under the Gruppo del Latemar, the flat-topped mountains dominating this area.

The biggest collection of easy runs lie further to the right, looking up the hill, but the whole area is linked by cruisy blues unless want to drop out in Predazzo or Pampeago, where reds are your only
option. You’re below 3000m in the Latemar region, but the aspect is perfect for retaining snow, as is the attitude of most local skiers.

The higher slopes all lie above the treeline so you can scope runs from the terraces of the mountain restaurants and see which lines you’ll be trying. Basically, you’ve about 3km of face to get stuck into. If you want to go-slow and far, Val di Fiemme is the site for the annual Marcialonga
cross-country race and a host for the world champs.
