A hearty meal is essential to keep you going and there’s plenty of opportunity to indulge in the finest cuisine in these parts.
In Les Gets, we’d recommend La Païka, a restaurant on the slopes with a huge barbecue on a great sunny terrace. La Paika can be found just off the La Terche run and serves delicious chicken, steak, shank of lamb and more, all spit roasted outdoors with a spectacular view of Mont Chery.
Over in Morgins, there’s a typical Swiss eatery called La Tovassière, which serves röstis that will keep you going all day long. Meanwhile, Les Crosets is home to the hotel-restaurant Le Relais Panoramique. Sitting at 1800m in the heart of the slopes, it is beautifully rustic, with delicious local specialties and, as the name suggests, you can sit out on the terrace with a panorama of the region.
In Avoriaz it’s Au Briska that you should head for. Situated in the heard of the resort, as well as local dishes, it offers steak and fish in alpine style... and live music to go with your raclette for a fun après session. Then in
Châtel it’s the Le Vieux Four. This old farm in the centre of town dates back to 1852 and their specialty is risotto with Abondance cheese and wild mushrooms.
Morzine has a wide range of bars and a couple of discos. For drinking and dancing with atmosphere try The Cavern in the centre of town. But for a more ‘sophisticated’ option, there’s a new wine bar called Coup de Coeur, which offers a more relaxing, less hedonistic evening of fun, with local tapas and wine on offer.
Over in Avoriaz, the bars are concentrated in the resort so you’ll find a party atmosphere pretty much everywhere you go. Last season the Chapka opened in the Falaise area, offering a tapas bar with pool tables.
Meanwhile, a new nightclub has opened in Châtel – Sloopy’s. The club is located in the Super-Châtel gondola lift building and opens every night of the winter season from 11pm until 5am!
Gav MacKay says, “Morzine is like little England. You can't fail to meet some friendlies there. Bar Bush in Les gets is a brilliant night out or try Bar Robinson, in Morzine, for a pint of Mutzig and then straight home or risk howling at the moon in your underpants! The Barn is a great spot for a quiet drink by an open fire while you recall the shame of a night drinking Mutzig!”
