Hi, I've read some of the forum posts about turn radius and how you've pointed skiers in certain directions with regard to turn radius. What are the basic rules to understand and what things should I think about in terms of the relationship to width underfoot and sidecut.

I've been skiing for many seasons and spend a couple of days a week off piste with a guide. I normally ski in Europe and still improving (two weeks a year) I've been on Fisher Progressor for the last three season. I think the turn radius is 13m. They're the 7+ I'm looking to upgrade - Perhaps with a ski more suitable for being off the piste. Looking forward to a recommendation and an explanation.

Re: Turn Radius

The skis you've currently got are aimed at someone skiing only on piste and at 13m turn radius, they will turn quite a short turn shape.

If you've got on well with the Fischer skis then a more all mountain version to look at would be the Fischer Watea 84. This is 84mm under foot, which gives you good surface area and therefore float in soft snow (also helps push through heavy slushy late season snow on piste!). The Wateas are approx. 18m radius which will be slightly longer turn shape than you're used to, but should still be manageable for short turns but feel more stable at longer turns.

There's also the Watea 88 (88mm under foot), but this is a little bit stiffer in flex and maybe more suited to someone wanting to do more off-piste. The Watea 84 will still ski really well on-piste and also be a forgiving feel as you're still progressing.

The Watea's have been very well written up on ski tests over the last few years!

If you need any help on length, please let us know your height and weight.
