Hi Guys,

So I'm looking for some advise on what ski's to buy!

I have been skiing about 3 times now and I'm a pretty good piste skier but I'm looking to get into some freestyle and possible have some fun in the board park but I'm not sure how easy i will take to it just yet as i know no one who does it that i can learn from or would be interested in learning it with me but here is my problem.

I have just bough the Nordica XBI CT+ from snow and rock which is just a piste ski.

I had a look at some Semi Twins but wasn't sure if they were worth getting hold of. What would you recommend as an all round ski that would allow me to begin to get into freestyle skiing and learning some tricks to head into the board park.

The reason i want all round ski's is because i do no know anyone that does freestyle i end up going skiing with the family and therefore will be doing quite a lot of normal piste skiing and i have been told twin tips are normally like a noodle on piste.(As advised in snow and rock)

Any help is much appreciate.

Re: Advice on Ski's

A good twin which easily cuts it on piste is the Head JO Pro. Bit stiff for jibbing though. Stiffness depends on a) how heavy you are and b) how hard you ski. A good skier will find most twin tips noodley if they're ripping on piste, but then freestylers only need stiff skis for the pipe. Watching freestyle folk screaming down icy blacks on knackered soft twin tips, giant powder skis and the like means you generally make the best of what you've got. Another ace do anything twin which is wider is the Volkl Bridge, but honestly, if you're looking to explore the park and get around the hill most of the current all mountain twins will deliver.

Re: Advice on Ski's

Everything Dickie says is pretty much spot on. A ski is what you make of it, and there are many freestyle skiers that make freestyle skis look good in every condition. And, there are plenty of all mountain twins that work well everywhere.

The Spitfire XB is a lovely piste ski for good skiers, and most twin tips would struggle to match its edge grip. If you do want to play around in the park it is worth getting something a little softer and twin tipped. If edge grip is a concern then something like Head SBC 79is a good choice.

If you want maximum piste performance stick with the Spitfire, if you want to learn some freestyle go with something that has a twin tail.

For great value for money maybe consider the Armada El-rey.
