DYNAFIT TLT7 EXPEDITION TOURING BOOT

Tested by Martin

The step from TLT 6 to 7 might sound like an upgrade, but Dynafit have gone the whole hog with a full feature revamp of this classic boot.

The first thing you notice is the rounding off of the toe and the removal of any toe bale fitting – common, too, to next season’s Dynafit Hoji, a much-hyped design that one of my colleagues will shortly be reviewing.

T&T: Dynafit TLT7

Those in favour will tell you this feature brings the toe inserts back and gives a “more natural feel” to the swing of the boot when skinning. The cynics will ask “WTF? Have Dynafit become the ‘Apple’ of ski touring?”

Making their boots incompatible with regular crampon bales and bindings is a bold move. For now, the available “adapter” is all a bit DIY and Heath Robinson. There are always French-style (front strap) bindings, but Dynafit need a more classy solution in the long term.

Don’t let any of this detract from the plethora of other clever innovations and tech: an amazing “one clip, one move” switch from walk to ski; clever “MasterStep” ridges to guide boot into binding; and great ski performance to weight ratio make this a boot to be reckoned with.

And if, like me, you have chubby hobbit feet, you’ll find extra width in the new last. So it’s well worth a fresh look at this great boot.

RRP: £540
