We have had a few pretty good days here in Verbier lately

Ben Hawker

We have had a few pretty good days here in Verbier lately. It has been snowing on and off for the last few days and the sun has made an appearance on a regular basis.

We have mainly been skiing in two areas. The first being a place called "Secret Spot" in Savoleyres linked to Verbier. Most people seem to know where it is so it's kind of just a reference to the area rather than being an actual secret place. We hit up the face with a couple of Warren Smith guys called Tom and John and a guy called Chris who took a few pictures. At this time of year the area doesn't get much sun so the snow stays really good. The area is quite steep with lots of pillows, small cliffs and a few trees so it's always loads of fun every time we go there. We stayed there most of the day until we had hit up every line and it was totally bombed out!

The other place we were skiing was at Bruson "the resort opposite Verbier". Again this is just like "secret spot" but a whole mountain. Loads of pillows, cliffs and trees but also with some really nice faces and open powder bowls at the top. On the first day I was joined by the two girls I live with called Roz and Annie. We skied the trees on the front side for a bit and then decided to do a hike. You basically go up the T-bar on the backside and then carry on up the ridge until you get to the cornice at the top. We then headed off left and down through a really nice powder bowl. It's pretty mellow but super fun just to let it rip and not worry about falling off a cliff or getting buried in an avalanche.

The second time we went to Bruson we didn't hike anything because we didn't need to. We simply lapped the tree lines and had loads of fun bouncing off the pillows over and over again. Next week is the half term holidays so I will probably head over there some more to get away from the crowds and general chaos in Verbier. The photos are of Ben Hawker at "secret spot" and Roz skiing one of the bowls in Bruson.

That's all for now until the next blog!

Cheers, Andy
