...we have been over to Bruson several times. The main reason for this was because it was the half term holidays and Verbier was absolutely rammed!
We had also had a couple of really good powder days and when it's so busy in Verbier, Bruson is the place to go.
One of the days I met up with Ally Watson and Rob Embling. They had travelled over from Chamonix for the day and when I met them in Bruson car park the first thing I noticed was the skis they had. Both of them had turned up on mega rockered, reverse cambered water skis! I wasn't sure how much it had snowed and thought they might have a hard time on them.
It turned out to be a pretty good day with over a foot of fresh and even the popular area on the front side hadn't been skied too much. We were filming for Rob's movie aka "unity productions" and as far as I am aware got some pretty good shots in. Ally was skiing really well and doing some pretty big drops. He got a nice 360 off a cliff and also nailed a back flip over the infamous Bruson cat track gap. As a bonus at the end of the day we found a new area with huge pillows and mushrooms. It's not so good for video or photos because it doesn't really get any sunlight but it's just loads of fun to go and ski.
I spent another day over there with Tim Ackroyd who does "Snow Fix". He was filming myself, Dave Young and Ben Hawker. The day didn't get off to a good start when I got all the way over there and realised I had forgotten my goggles and had to drive back and get them. I joined them an hour late only to find the snow was a little bit wind blown and it hadn't put as much down as I had thought. We had a few good runs and got some good shots in but then Tim broke his ski and had to go down and get a spare pair. Despite all the set backs it was still a fun day and Tim says he got some good footage so it's all good.
Nick Southwell and I built a powder booter a few days ago up in Verbier. When we had finished building it the wedge looked huge. We had spend a good few hours building it but the snow was nice building snow so it wasn't too bad. it was almost a natural table top and just looked like a really easy place to build one. The plan was to hit it up on the next sunny day. The only problem was that when the next sunny day came along Nick wasn't answering his phone so I headed up with Ben Hawker to hit it.
The jump was a nice size for learning stuff. It wasn't a huge amount of air time but had a nice transition and wasn't the type of kicker to be scared of. We just had a fun session and did some 360s, backflips and cork 7s. It all went well and the only injury was one broken ski pole. While we were in the area we checked out a few spots for another day and found a place to build a kicker up onto a big pillow and some nice cliff lines too. We are planning on hitting these up tomorrow weather permitting so I should be writing about it in the next blog. The two photos are of the pillow area we found in Bruson. Bungle is in the blue and I'm in the Orange.
