The hard stuff makes me stronger

Dickie FincherWed, 15/02/2012 - 9:21pm
There I was, just the other day, on the wrong side of an Alp to get all that snow. I'd packed my 193 free ride super-stiffies in anticipation of exhausting myself with a day's powder. As it was, we managed about four inches of snow all week so I was left to prove that my overtly manly planks were up to the job of scurrying about on the piste.

The skis are on the Aga...

Dickie FincherSun, 15/01/2012 - 9:13pm
It's time. I'm off in 12 hours and the final tweaks are being made. The snow is ok in Val Gardena, but not epic. That's fine. I'm still going skiing. Is there much off piste available? Still not sure, and I won't have a first hand report until I'm well on the way to Gatwick. So there are two pairs going into the bag, just in case. The Scotts are on the Aga because my waxing iron has bust and I just want to give them a too-late freshen up, and the Heads are box fresh and ready to scream.

See, it had to happen...

Dickie FincherTue, 20/12/2011 - 5:24pm
Snow is falling. And then some. I told you so (quietly, with hope). We had good snowfalls about three weeks earlier last year. We're getting epic dumps now. Here's to a long winter. How lucky we've just published The Powder Issue. Read and be inspired. I've just booked another trip on the back of it; that's how excited I am...

Effing useless online booking

Dickie FincherTue, 13/12/2011 - 10:45pm
Here I am, very warmed up for the season with nine families plus a group of friends waiting for me to press the button on a trip at Easter. That'll be just under 80 people about to commit to spending around 60 grand in one hit on a trip. I want to take them to the Dolomites to take advantage of the Dolomiti Superski family offer, but can I get any sense out of the website? Can I buggery.

Jamie Pierre

Dickie FincherMon, 14/11/2011 - 8:58pm
We were talking about Jamie Pierre the other day. He'd phoned into the office during the summer for a catch up and his regular invite to go for a ski with him.

OK, we're off into the season...

Dickie FincherWed, 09/11/2011 - 8:13pm
...sort of. My, what a bumpy start we're having. Some people are out there, prepping for their trips, planning their transport, booking accommodation. Our group of village people have planned trip one, and it's into trip two mode in the next couple of weeks. It's Selva, a mid-Jan chalet, and it seems like good value at around £650 all in. We normally take a mate's apartment in France, but think that catered in Italy will be within a few quid overall.

Bit of catching up to do...

Dickie FincherTue, 22/03/2011 - 7:29pm
It's been quite busy. In the last month I've finished the European and UK trade shows, been to the ski test, sorted the final details for the new website, moved house, found a new editor for Fall-Line for next season and buckled down to produce the Outdoor Adventure Guide, our year-round (but mainly summer) title.

The Freeride World Tour - what should it be?

Dickie FincherMon, 31/01/2011 - 11:52am
We've had a couple of rounds of the Freeride World Tour and here at Fall-Line we've dutifully posted up the winning runs, had a scan through the contenders and generally paid attention like enthusiastic riding types would.

A week in the Alps

Dickie FincherThu, 27/01/2011 - 4:25pm
Paradiski wasn't bad after all the noise about missing snow. SInce there were only two out of about 80 pistes looking a bit rattly, and several of the others were in the best condition I've ever ridden, it worked out to be a very fine trip.

Thoughts on snowboarding and other 2010 stuff...

Dickie FincherTue, 04/01/2011 - 1:27pm
Hooray to 2011, and see ya 2010. The Year of Great Uncertainty is gone, to be replaced by... another one? This is according to the mainstream media, who need a bit of woe to keep them on the go.
