Overall Best Women’s Piste Ski 2017/18: Rossignol Famous 10

Rossignol Famous 10 wins Fall-Line Skiing magazine's Best Women's piste ski 2018 award

This high performance piste ski excels at hard and fast short radius carves, but doesn’t pull any punches when it’s time to open up at higher speeds

Rossi’s Famous 10 is their top of the range piste ski for women, and it definitely lives up to expectations! With a punchy flex, heaps of camber and an aggressively deep sidecut, it delivers ferocious frontside performance in spades – provided you have the skills to harness its power.

Carving hard short turns on the Rossignol Famous 10 ski

With all that camber and a stiff poplar wood core the Famous 10 does need some rider input to really come alive, but gives more than it takes and rewards good technical skiing with limitless edge grip and confidence-boosting stability at any speed – and preferably the more the better.

Short radius and high edge angle carves are their real forte: they dart in and out of turns like a cheetah on the hunt, rebounding across the fall-line from arc to arc with explosive energy. On a freshly-groomed run they’re electrifying; so good that you’ll actually want to get up in the morning for first lift and perfect corduroy!

At slower speeds a smidge of rocker in the tip aids turn initiation, helped by what what Rossignol call a ‘Prop Tip’ – mass has been shaved away from the tip to reduce swing weight, which makes the Famous surprisingly good in moguls too. They’re more nimble than many skis in this category, and when the bumps get too big to rail through are happy to elegantly dance bases-flat through the zipperline.
